How to Nail a Job Interview
A job interview is a formal meeting set by an employer to meet an employee to see whether he or she is qualified enough to work in a given company. Through interview it helps the employee to get an idea of what to expect in a given workplace. Many interviewers form their opinion of you within the first few minutes of the interview. So an interview is the only chance for you to stand out and make first impression, and highlight your skills. You have to convince the interviewer that you’re the one.
1. Before attending interview practice with your friends and family and make sure your answers are not only complete, but also at least 20 seconds in length. Do not exceed the two minute time limit.
2. One of the best ways to ace your job interview is to study the current events of the company, look up the companies website since Most employers will ask “what do you know about the company? So try to learn as much as you can about the company’s mission, objectives, goals, and future plans. Think of ways that you can promote the business in the community and give an example the employer. Write down about 5 questions and bring them with to the interview.
3. Unless your resume catches the interviewer’s eye in 10 seconds it’s over, you’re done. so Cater your resume to the job description by writing a line on your resume to reflect your experience with regard to that line.
4. Update your resume to match the job you’re applying for. Speak positively about yourself and cite previous experience. Though your interviewer(s) will likely have a copy of your resume but bring spares. It shows you’re prepared and serious about getting the job.
5. Practice answering some common interview questions. Be prepared for the tough questions that you may be asked like: “tell me about yourself”, “why do you want to work for us”, “what can you add to our company”, “what are your strengths, and weaknesses” so never memorize answers. Make answering as spontaneous as you possibly can.
6. Depending upon where you are interviewing, dress appropriately.
7. React to the interviewer’s mannerisms. Be ready to shake hands if he or she offers to. Don’t speak loudly if the interviewer speaks in a low voice.
8. Have good eye contact, staring at the floor, ceiling, or wall when speaking or listening makes you appear disinterested.
9. Try to express why you want to work in that field/industry and what you do to further your knowledge. The more intelligent or informed you are the more impressive you’ll look.
10. The interviewer wants to know you are hard working, but it will be hard for him or her to believe you unless you prove it. Tell a story of how you were hard working and instead of just saying it. Don’t leave it up to the imagination of the interviewer to figure out how. Rather, explain in detail and give and example to illustrate it.
11. Body language is also a huge form of nonverbal communication. It will communicate whether you are confident, relaxed, nervous, or unsure of yourself. In order to ace your job interview, you must give off positive energy with your body language. Sit up straight and don’t slouch your back. Show that you are alert and listening carefully to everything your interviewer in saying.
12. After the interview, send a handwritten thank you note. A handwritten note is the best because it more personal instead of mailing.
