Career in Aeronautical Engineering
Aeronautical Engineering is considered as the most challenging, remunerative and prestigious career fields of engineering with a wide scope for growth in the present day. Aeronautical Engineering is the study of the science of flight. Aeronautics is the method of designing an airplane or other flying machine. Anyone who is looking for a career that is exciting, challenging and sets your adrenalin flowing, then Aeronautical Engineering is for you. Since Aeronautical Engineering is one of the most adventurous branch of engineering with a real wide bandwidth with new innovation and design happening in the aviation industry everyday.
The Aeronautical Engineering field deals with the development of new technology in the field of aviation, space exploration and defense systems. It specializes in the structural design, navigational guidance and control systems, instrumentation, communication and maintenance of both commercial and military aircraft, spacecrafts and their components as well as satellites and missiles.
Since Aeronautical engineer’s work in teams under the supervision of senior engineers, their job demands manual, technical as well as mechanical aptitude for bringing together their skills and technical expertise. The engineers design the controls that are needed in order to fly and instruments are provided for the pilot in the cockpit of the plane. Technology like computer-aided design (CAD) software, robotics, laser and advanced electronic optics are used by them.
The role of Aeronautical engineer’s is focused on enhancing high-quality flight safety and standards as well as reducing system costs. As an Aeronautical Engineer you need to research and test new techniques used in the field.
The eligibility for the career in Aeronautical Engineering, the candidates require the qualification as:
10+2 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics and a good percentage
Degree in B.E or B.Tech.
Passing the qualifying exam of JEE
There is also an Aeronautical Membership Examination of the Institute of Engineers (AMIE) which allows people in the public and private sector to study for Aeronautical Engineering by distance mode. The degree given by them is equivalent to a degree in Aeronautical engineering.
The duration of recognized Aeronautical Engineering degree is four years and the diploma course takes about 2 to 3 years. There are many institutes that are offering Aeronautical Engineering in India.
For a person who wants to make a career in Aeronautical Engineering must have certain inherent qualities such as an eye for detail, analytical bent of mind and be good at problem solving. They must have good mathematical, communication and interpersonal skills and also be well-versed with the finer aspects of designing. They must be physically fit, normal vision and no color blindness.
After completion of Aeronautical engineering an engineer will start his career as a trainee or junior Engineer for training. After successful completion of training they will be recruited as assistant aircraft engineers or assistant technical officers. They have to pass periodic exams to gain promotions. They could also become consultants later on.
The Aeronautical Engineers get the employment with the national, international, public and private Airline Services, aircraft-manufacturing units, Defense services and research and development organizations.
Indian organizations such as Defense Research and Development Laboratories (DRDO), Hindustan Aeronautical Ltd (HAL), National Aeronautical Lab (NAL), Aeronautical Development Establishment and even in Civil Aviation sectors are the prominent employment sectors for Aeronautical Engineering.
After completing computer engineering in Aeronautics you can write software for embedded computer systems in jets and for many different subsystems, other aircraft and aeronautical systems.
